Job Description
We are seeking an Accounting Manager who can deliver accurate accounting work while leading and developing other accountants. This is a hands-on role: you will own assigned accounting activities, coordinate the close, review the team’s work, and help resolve complex accounting issues. You will balance your own deliverables with delegation, coaching, and quality control so the team meets deadlines without sacrificing accuracy or sound judgment.
This role will perform and review general ledger accounting, including journal entries, accruals, prepayments, bank reconciliations, and balance sheet reconciliations. Investigate discrepancies, resolve reconciling items promptly, and maintain clear supporting documentation.
Coordinate month-end and year-end close activities, maintain the close calendar, and prepare financial statements and management reports. Explain significant variances, check the completeness and accuracy of results, and apply the relevant accounting standards consistently.
Maintain effective internal controls and appropriate approval practices. Support audits and tax preparation by providing accurate schedules and evidence, partnering with specialists as needed. Improve accounting procedures, documentation, and system workflows to reduce errors and unnecessary manual work.
Supervise accountants, set clear priorities, and delegate assignments based on skills, capacity, and development needs. Establish owners and deadlines, monitor progress, and adjust workloads when priorities change. Retain accountability for team results while completing your own assigned accounting work.
Review accountants’ journal entries, reconciliations, schedules, and reports for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate treatment. Provide specific feedback, explain required corrections, and confirm issues are resolved. Escalate significant risks early and maintain appropriate separation between preparation and approval.
Coach accountants through regular feedback, practical training, and development goals. Support onboarding and performance reviews, address performance concerns constructively, and build cross-training and coverage. Encourage questions, professional judgment, and clear communication with colleagues outside accounting.
Job Qualifications
A degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
At least seven years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, and month-end close.
Experience supervising accountants or leading accounting work, including assigning tasks, reviewing deliverables, and coaching colleagues.
Strong understanding of accounting principles and internal controls; proficiency with accounting software and Excel, including lookups, pivot tables, and reconciliation analysis. Strong organization, clear communication, and sound judgment, with the ability to manage competing deadlines, explain accounting issues, and handle confidential information responsibly.
CPA, CA, ACCA, CMA, or a comparable professional accounting qualification. Experience supporting external audits, improving close processes, implementing accounting systems, or developing training and cross-coverage for an accounting team.
